Jewelry Care

Sterling Silver Jewelry

Lets first talk about what sterling silver is. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. It is durable, hypoallergenic and sustainable. Although sterling silver is stronger than solid silver, it can be prone to scratching if it is not treated with care. Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time but routine polishing will keep your pieces looking brand new. The oils from your skin can actually help preserve the sterling silver which is why the more frequently you wear it, the longer it will last!

Gold Plated Jewelry

Our gold jewelry is a little different from other gold plated jewelry. Usually gold plated is a layer of gold on top of a base metal that us usually brass or copper. Our gold is plated on top of 925 sterling silver which means that it is stronger and more durable.

To ensure the long life of your jewelry:

  • Remove jewelry during physical activities (running, hiking, swimming, cleaning)
  • Remove jewelry when using chemicals such as shampoos, soaps, lotions, makeup, hairspray etc.
  • Moisture and sunlight can cause tarnishing so take off your jewelry when showering, swimming, sunbathing etc.
  • Avoid using rough materials like a bath towel to polish your jewelry. Use your microfiber jewelry polishing cloth to gently clean your jewelry.
  • Store your jewelry in an air-tight container or bag. Remember to clean your jewelry before storing.

With the right care, your Skye jewelry will last for years to come! Each order comes with a jewelry polishing cloth. Polishing your jewelry regularly will help avoid tarnishing and reduce the chance of skin irritation. Our polishing cloth will also help clean and polish your sterling silver and gold plated jewelry.
